Our journey began as dragon riders…
In 2019, J’s kids set out on a quest—to become Vikings straight out of How to Train Your Dragon for Halloween. But when J searched for high-quality, affordable garb, he found little that met the mark. That’s when his oldest daughter, Trinadee, issued a challenge: Make it yourself.
And so, with hammer, needle, and leather in hand, J began crafting and the adventure began.
From Family Craft to Fierce Tradition
Vildnfri is a growing family business dedicated to outfitting adventurers with authentic and affordable Viking, medieval, and fantasy garb and gear. You’ll find us at Renaissance Faires and Viking Festivals where we don’t just sell wares—we bring the Viking Age and fantasies to life.
We set up our full-scale Viking camp to offer an immersive experience, where you can hold a warrior’s shield, explore a variety of Viking wares, and make our camp your home. We create a space where everyone is welcome and where every event can be an adventure. We hope you will visit us at our encampment where you can be wild and free with Vildnfri.
Forged by Hand, Rooted in History
J handcrafts authentic, full-scale Viking round shields using pine planks, hand-forged wrought iron nails, and shield bosses. He soaks real rawhide in water before installing it, ensuring that as it dries, it shrinks and tensions the boards together—just as Viking warriors did centuries ago.
Together with our growing crew, we forge, stitch, carve, and craft. From hand-sewn garb to leatherwork, woodwork, and metalwork, we pour our passion into every piece. We also design and source drinking horns, sounding horns, weapons, jewelry, tents, and more—everything you need to outfit your next adventure.

At Vildnfri, we are more than merchants—we are storytellers, entertainers, and historians. Our crew brings incredible craftsmanship, historical knowledge, and immersive performances to every event. We mix education with entertainment, ensuring that every guest walks away with not just a piece of history, but an unforgettable experience.

Our name comes from the Danish words Vild (“Wild”) and Fri (“Free”), a reflection of the spirit that drives us. We believe in embracing adventure, living boldly, and celebrating the past while forging new paths forward.
Our journey began as dragon riders and has grown into a full-fledged Viking voyage. While we are known for our immersive vendor displays at events, our Vildnfri online store allows us to bring the spirit of adventure beyond Viking shores.
